Hello, I'm JO...
...and I have Polyglandular
Autoimmune Failure.
If you are asking yourself what is that, then you're in the same position
I was when I first heard those fearful words. Well, let me try to explain.
Antibodies are responsible for killing germs in each of our bodies, but my
antibodies can't tell the difference between germs and my own body. So,
little by little, my antibodies are attacking and killing my glands and organs. What
does this mean? Well, depending on which gland or organ is affected
determines which autoimmune diseases I will get next.
I have been told I will eventually get all of the autoimmune diseases, but
I only had eight when I started my original site. They were
Addison's
Disease,
Hypothyroidism,
Osteoporosis,
Costochondritis,
Pernicious
Anemia,
Iron
Deficient Anemia,
Folic
Acid Anemia, and
Gilbert's
Syndrome. However at this writing, they have added
Multiple
Sclerosis,
Meniere's
Disease,
Fibromyalgia
and
Cataracts.
Along with these autoimmune disorders, I have a few cardiac problems
as well.
My purpose in creating this site is to increase the knowledge of this condition
and their related disorders and to provide support to anyone with an autoimmune
disease. Since these diseases can be difficult to diagnose and since
those afflicted often do not look sick, we are often misunderstood by our
friends and family.
I invite you to read my story and I hope it provides you with whatever insight
you may have been searching for or need.
