SEPTEMBER 28, 1999

Well, happy birthday to me, a day late.  MS is confirmed and the doctor has ordered Betaseron.  Cost, $1024/month.  I was wondering how in the world would I ever afford that without insurance, when I got a call from Mom.  Seems she had found some information on help with MS medicine.  It turned out to be for Avonex, the "A" drug of the ABC's.

Even though the doctor wanted to put me on the "B" drug, I decided I would go ahead and call about it.  Guess what?  They said I qualified for their program which would provide the medicine for $25.00 a QUARTER!!!   And that is to cover shipping.  That's is only $100/year.
I decided to see if Betaseron offered the same type of program and sure enough. If you do not have any prescription coverage and did not have $12,000 in disposable income they could provide it at a shared cost.  For me, $10 a month. I'll take it!

So now I get to feel like a pincushion but since it is supposed to slow the progression of the disease, I'll feel like a pincushion.

You are listening to Memories from the musical Cats, written by
Andrew Lloyd Webber and T.S. Eliot.  I felt this song was a perfect selection
for this site because of the affiliation I feel with Grizabella.  Although for her,
it was age and not health issues that changed her, neither of us are who we
were before, on the outside, and it can affect how we feel on the inside.
