~ What to do with the Fonts ~
Note...
When I use a font that is not standard I have included it on the
download page and sometimes in the ZIP and EXE as well.
In order for your computer to display the font that is used, the
font needs to be installed. First off, unless you have a good
memory [ I am referring to your memory, not your computer's], put
your fonts in another folder other than the C:\Windows\Fonts folder.
I have a folder inside My Documents called Fonts and a folder in
it called Installed Fonts. You will understand the reason
for this later.
Go
here if you need help on creating folders.
1. Open the font folder you made and minimize it to the taskbar
by clicking the - sign in the upper right hand corner of the window.
2. Open the zip by double-clicking the file.
3. Find and highlight the TTF file.
4. With your cursor over the highlighted font, click and hold your
left mouse key and then drag downward to your taskbar. The cursor
thingie will change shapes twice. It will become a circle
with a slash and then it will become an arrow with a boxed in +
sign. Continue to drag down. When you are positioned on top
of the font folder, it will pop open. Move the font into the
folder by releasing your mouse key.
5. Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel
6. Double-click on the Fonts folder
7. Click File>Install New Font
8. In the lower left window, browse for the font folder you just
created.
Note!
In my example, I have a folder called My Fonts that I made on my
Desktop. You do not have to call it that or put it there as long
as you can find it by double clicking the folders until you have
it opened. The font/fonts will begin to appear in the bigger window
up above.
9. Highlight the one/ones you need to install and click OK.
Note...
If you have picked a font that is already installed, it will tell
you, so don't worry. Then you are done. I then take the fonts that
I have installed and put them in the installed folder so they will
not slow things the next time I go to install fonts.
Now, fonts do take up a lot of memory and space so if you do not
have it to spare, you have another choice.
Note...
Go ahead and put the font in the folder, then right click and open.
A small rectangle window will open showing a small sample of the
font and then minimize that window by clicking the - sign in the
upper right corner. As long as that font is minimized in the taskbar,
it will be available to use in PSP, OE and other programs. You may
have to click off of the mail and back again for the change to be
able to see the font in the mail. Just close it when you are done.
You can have about 1024 fonts installed BUT most say it is best
to keep installed fonts to 500 or less. I currently have 984.
I never install dingbats, 0, or those fonts that I call alphabets
[those that are like objects the form letters] but keep them in
a folder for use by opening and minimizing them. Oh, and yes,
fonts, webdings, dingbats, etc... all install the same.
